Pacific Ocean at the beach in Santa Monica, ~ 5 miles from UCLA. The Santa Monica Mountains in the background offer many hiking trails with spectacular views of the Los Angeles basin and the ocean.

This picture was taken in February from the top of an apartment building about 1 mile south of UCLA. It shows the snow covered San Gabriel mountains towards the east of LA (about a two hour drive from UCLA).
