Laboratory investigators, researchers and trainees should interact directly with UCLA regulatory offices and DLAM. Regulatory offices include: the Department of Environment, Health and Safety for biological and laboratory safety, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and radiation safety; the Chancellor’s Animal Research Committee; and the Internal Review Board (for human subjects research). These offices offer their own training and certification programs that can be located on their websites given below. The Department of Neurobiology does not generally contact these offices or DLAM on behalf of individual investigators, researchers, and trainees. However, if there were to be a widespread problem affecting multiple labs, the Department would work with the responsible UCLA department or office to find solutions. If you wish to report a problem, you may e-mail Fred Hughes (fhughes@mednet.ucla.edu or Dr. Chesselet (mchesselet@mednet.ucla.edu. By reviewing such reports, we can determine whether or not an issue would benefit from Department-level representation.
