Fred Hughes oversees all administrative functions and staff members, assures Department compliance with University policies and procedures, and is available to solve problems. Fred has also been functioning as academic personnel coordinator, preparing major Faculty dossiers and staffing review committees.

Eva Mellado takes care of staff, student, and postdoctoral personnel and payroll services, visa assistance to staff and apprentice personnel, benefits counseling and assistance, and administrative support for the Chair. Appointments with the Chair may be made through Catherine or Eva. Eva also takes care of Departmental symposia, distinguished speakers programs, and annual events. Eva arranges the annual departmental symposium and holiday party, assists with the annual graduate student retreat and monthly happy hours, and backs up purchasing and assistance to the Vice Chair.

Brenda Padron takes care of graduate students from admission to graduation, provides support to Departmental teaching activities, and coordinates postdoctoral program activities. Brenda staffs the annual retreat committee. She also supports the Vice Chair for Graduate Affairs and the CAO when it comes to teaching and education-related projects. In addition, Brenda takes care of an assigned portfolio of Faculty funds and backs up the purchasing and payroll functions. Brenda`s portfolio includes funds of Drs. Bisley, Buonomano, Campbell, Clemente, Dirksen, Dreier, Eldred, Gorski, Houser, Kruger, O`Neill, Scheibel, Segundo, Shao, Trachtenberg, and Zampighi.

Phuong Pham is the primary purchasing coordinator for the Department. She also processes travel and other reimbursement requests.

Art Rocha is the primary contact for Facilities Services Requests and Telecommunication Services Requests. He also assists and acts as back up in the placement of purchase orders from laboratories and Department offices (including Bruin Buy, equipment, stationery, and form orders) and reimbursements. He orders and inventories office supplies, updates and maintains equipment and space inventory, oversees business office machine and equipment maintenance, and coordinates the safety and emergency programs.

Lupe Romero takes care of all departmental funds, an assigned portfolio of Faculty funds, and financial transactions for the graduate student program. Lupe supervises Purchasing and also provides all academic payroll services, prepares non-faculty academic dossiers, and backs up staff personnel and payroll functions. intos portfolio includes endowment funds and funds of Drs. Bok, Brecha, Cooper, Feldman, Frank, Harper, Micevych, Novitch, Otis, Ringach, Schlag, Schweizer, Silva, Sofroniew, and Taylor.

Catherine Weston is the Assistant to the Chair / Academic Personnel Coordinator. She provides a full range of administrative services to the Department Chair, prepares faculty dossiers, and staffs academic personnel and ad hoc review committees.
